Default Getting the P0135 02 sensor code!

01 SS with longtube headers, I am getting the P0135 02 sensor bank 1 code. I researched and found it is common with longtubes. Any long term issues to worry about? I have a scanner, and the problem is intermittent. Thanks.

Its not one of the common codes with headers. Whenever I got that code it meant my o2 sensor was toast. Its time for a new one and let the games begin

Usually if you have O2 sensor codes for the front sensors, you could have a problem somewhere else in your engine if it is pretty much stock. When you start modifying it with heads or cam or something else, that can also ruin your O2's. Most aftermarket cams arent good for your o2's. I went through 3 sets in my car with a Comp Cam (middle range for performance). I even had a great tune too. In my case the best thing to do is to have it tuned without O2's which will work just fine but not have quite as good gas mileage. Just remember that if you DO have another problem, (vacuum leak, fuel pressure regulator leak, etc.) then tuning without your O2's will not work.

Hope this helps,
Luke

Based on the trouble shooting procedure for P0135 the most likely causes are a bad O2 sensor or the wiring that connects it to the harness.

If your modified car starts eating front O2 sensors on regular basis your tune is off - aftermarket parts do not kill O2 sensors - inefficient combustion does.

The front and rears are not always interchangeable - might want compare part numbers.

You should word your codes desciption correctly so we know what your talking about. (P0140,P0160,P1133 ,P1153 ARE COMMON)
Did you mean your having codes p1133 Insufficient Switching Bank 1 Sensor 1? Whats your codes?

Front and rears are the same. Trouble shooting by swapping them is perfect. Thats what I do

Front and rear sensors are interchangeable. the only difference is wire length.

LPE007,
P0135 - Oxygen O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank1, Sensor1). This is unexpected, unlike the insufficient switching code, and should be looked into further. Are you sure you didn't melt a wire? One of the wires supplies power to the sensor's heat element. Put a multi meter to that wire and see if it's seeing power with the key on/engine off.

Or an easier way is to swap sides and see if the code moves with sensor.

There's some decent advice in this thread...and some....

PO134: circut insufficient activity bank 1 sensor 1

PO135: heater performance bank 1 sensor 1

PO154: circut insufficient activity bank 2 sensor 1

I did not actually say it isn't but I said that some are not interchangeable based on the fact that mine (CTS-V LS6) have two different and dissimilar part numbers and two different connector types. I have already been corrected (and ridiculed) for not knowing the sensors themselves might actually be the same. I apologize if my suggestion that you verify part numbers caused any inconvenience.

My experience on many different vehicles is that if the code for a heater circuit fault shows up, a new O2 sensor has always fixed it.
