Default P/S pump delete?

Was power steering optional? If so is there a idler pulley replacement?

Actually I'm running a '67 Chevy II with the LS1/T56 combo and it is a good deal lighter than the Camaro/Firebird platform so I really don't see the need for it.
If it was optional than either an idler pulley or a different drive belt would be used.

It was standard on all factory LS1 cars. You can remove it and not run an idler pulley. I did this for a while with no problems. What kind of steering rack are you going to run?

Also, are you using Corvette or F-body accessories?

The Heidts front end assembly uses a modified Mustang II rack & pinion unit.

The engine/trans is out of a '99 Firebird. I am going to use the A/C(seperate belt), and the stock (low mount) generator.

I guess I could remove the pump part and leave the pulley and housing or could I just get a shorter belt(not sure about all the looping)?

Yeap, it sucked. My power steering pump blew out the hose once and then the pump quit. It's difficult, but not unbearable.
