Default Heated O2s?

I'm doing some feasibility work on using my old Hooker sidepipes and modifying them to fit with the LS1. The collectors on these pipes are actually outside of the rockers, right behind the front tires. I would have to mount the O2s way out there. How far away from the motor is too far away for regular unheated O2 sensors? My off the top of my head guesstimate is that the collectors are about 30-36" (of tubing) from the flanges.
Thanks,
Matt

Cant you weld an O2 bung in the collector B-4 the flange?
O2's have to maintain 600 + degrees to work correctly.

Sorry if I didn't explain well. I mean the flange that bolts to the head. There is ~30" of primaries before the collector. The collector is actually outside of the body of the car. See this pic: http://matt.undiagnosed.org/images/v...ed_profile.jpg
