Default which heads?

k i cracked my block so i'm going lq9. i've got everything off my ls1 that i can use. should i keep the lq9s 317 heads or use my ls1 241 heads. 243's or others are not in the budget right now. i have to choose between the two i've got. i know 317's flow better but 241's higher compression....someone who knows please tell me. no plans on fi or anythin.....

IIRC, there are close together, but I think the 241s are what you want.

I would go with the 241s. More compression is almost always better then more flow in my opinion.

ok so a local shop recommended that i use the 317's with a thinner gasket to bump the compression back up. sound about rght? according to gm high tech perf, the 317's have the same ports as 243's so thinning the gasket will pretty much act like 243's. sound about right?

not sure yet, he's going to run some numbers and shoot me an email later today with exact numbers. it may not bring the CR as high as 243's or getting them milled, but it should at least be pretty close. its not a bad way to build on a budget.

Thank you for asking this question its exactly what i needed to know lol! I just picked up a Lq9 short block and I have some 5.3 706's and 241's sitting at the house. I was'nt sure if I should wait for 317s or slap the 241's on there. Would it be beneficial to port the 241's?? Also would the pistons need to be fly cut?
