Default ARP Flexplate bolts

I ordered the GMPP flexplate with adapter and bolts to use with TH350. After breaking 2 bolts off in the crank, I ordered ARP flexplate bolts. They are shanking out without securing the flexplate. My question is, would it be sufficient to put washers under the heads of the ARP bolts? Thanks

Why'd the original 2 bolts break, were they "shanking out" too? I'd be concerned that you may have a wrong part somewhere, especially since the ARP bolts aren't fitting correctly. Your "fix" may work OK (check for clearance around the convertor), but take another look at your parts first...

Don't put washers under the bolt heads. You can shim the flex plate(fly wheel) with shims. They are only a few thousandths . Are the bolts bottoming out? I personnely would get shorter bolts. You need to be sure the bolts are torqued and not bottomed out, also they have a shoulder that the plate rides on you don't want it resting on the threads.

The bolts are not fully threaded and the "Grip" of the bolt is longer then the thickness of the flex-plate. I torqued them all to 65lb-ft without washers and it was not securing the flex-plate. I measured the washers that I have, and they are 0.033 thick, the bolts look to be around 0.035" too long. I'm just nervous about using washers under the heads of the bolts. Is this something that anyone has had problems with? Thanks for the responses.

Which bolts did you order?

What do you mean by "shanking"? Is someone stabbing you with a shaved off comb?

There are two different types of bolts for them. One has a longer shank than the other, you need the set that is shorter.

I ordered both sets because I didn't have time to call Jegs to find out which set I needed. With my TCI flexplate they said I need to use the shorter set, this is also what ARP told me

I would order the proper bolt. The shim would work but I haven't found one for the LS1 bolt circle. The bolts have sholders so you don't need a washer.
