Default exhaust clamp

Can anyone tell me what the diameter is on the pipe that comes from the cats and connects to the pipe that goes to the muffler is on a 1998 Z28, it is still the stock exhaust. Also these Band Clamps, do the pipes need to be seperated to put the clamp on or can they be twisted to go over the pipes while they are still connected? Mine is broken and the pipes are loose and rattle. I have never used a clamp like this before. Thank You!

The I pipe is a 2 3/4" connection. The pipes do not need to be separated to install a clamp.

DaveX thanx for the quick reply. I'm looking on ebay for these clamps and looking at them I am wondering, how can these things that look like a big hose clamp really clamp down with enough force to keep the pipes togother. Am I looking at the wrong stuff?

Something like this will work fine as long as you have room on both sides of the connection for it. I have about 6 holding my system together. The good thing is they don't collapse the pipes (much) so you can take the system apart and put it back together:

I have heard really good things about this style but haven't tried them myself:

OK I recieved the clamp Walker 33977 today and am going to install it tomorrow morning. There is a small piece of black stciky stuff with it where do I put this? It looks like the black putty that is used to hold the clear plastic in place under the door panel.
