Default VDO temperature sender on right passenger head?

Question on adapting temperature sender with Autometer #2277 to right passenger head M12 x 1.5:

Has anyone machine down a VDO 250 degree 1/8 -27 nptf temperature sender's shank (approximatley .324 diameter) to fit the Autometer 1/8-27 NPTF to M12 x 1.5 adapter's hole (approximately .256 ID)

I would rather not open up the adapters hole, as I have read stories of the threads separating when drawn up.

So has anyone turned down the VDO sender, and if so, how far can you go?

I just did this yesterday in my garage with a hand drill and a vice. doesn't take a rocket surgeon to do it.

I had one of the adapters strip, and then could not stop the leaking. I ended up drilling and tapping my passenger head to 1/8 npt It was not difficult at all, The 12x1.5 is very close to 1/8 npt.
