Default Why is this so hard?

Ok guys over the last couple weeks ive been on here looking at what people say about cams. Now I have also been talking to people here in colorado as this is where I live. I found to places here that custom grind their own cams for ls1 motors that give extra lobe and power but are emissions friendly and will allow me to pass without putting the stocker back in. one guy said his woukd add 50 horse and his whole kit was 700. Another guy said his would add 60-70 at a price of 1060. Those are kit prices without tune and emissions safe. No I know I may sound lime a deusch but I personally do not wanna pull my motor half apart every two yrs for emissions. I would rather buy one that gives me what I want but be emissions friendly. So is there anyone out there that has one they have used or any suggestions. Im tired of pounding my head against the wall with this stuff. I just want a street car that has power and drives nice. Any suggestions ill take. As well as any other things I should get with the cam kit?

60-70 hp cam only while passing emissions running the same tune? Pssssh, bullshit. All you have to do is search for smog friendly cams, and/or learn how to tune. You can simply change the tune and pass emissions then when you leave change it back.

Idk the shop is legit. I went there today. They deal with vetts all day long but its pricey. Any suggestions on a good smog leagual cam. I keep hearing different things. I just want someone to tell me the best to try. Im just looking to build a 400 horse street car for now. Eat all those new 5.0's up.

Since you do have to pass emissions, i would opt for the good ol proven 224/224 cam. That cam passes Cali smog and emissions. You might be able to fit a 228/228 cam from TSP in there.

Thank you guys. If you would like to check out the places here is the website to one and forum to the other.
http://www.gmvsworld.com/index.php
http://www.dragonrace.com/index1.html

Both are great shops but the dragon race seems more reputable and they have been around longer.

Emissions legal cam is going to be rather small. ThunderRacing has some smaller cams that should work for what you are looking for.

And it took me a little over a year of research to finally settle on a cam that I wanted.

I had trouble finding the right cam too. Finally ended up paying Patrick G $25 to spec one out for me. well worth it.

Thats true I do have the option of a custom ground cam. I think I will keep doing some research. I just needed some opinions on it. another question related to the cam. Some people tell me there is a bolt that needs to be replaced when you do the cam swap? Some gm specific thing. Is that true?
