Thumbs down GAS milage problem!

Well I have an air/fuel ratio gauge and its one of those splice in ones. Yeah yeah i know i sound cheap and yes i will get the right one but i can buy go fast parts for what i would spend on a gauge. Well i looked in my repair book to figure out which wire to splice to and im pretty sure it was suppose to be the purple one. Well now the gauge needle bounces around so its not spliced properly as well as. So I have no idea what to do. But now my gas milage has gone to ****. Could I of screwed up my O2 sensor? I'm assuming this is the problem. Any suggestions?

if you got a narrow band a/f gauge hooked up, its supposed to jump all over the place while the engine is running.

those narrowbands only read from 0.1V to 1.0V your pcm is constantly changing fuel delivery based on readings from the MAF and the O2's. so the gauge is going to bounch around.

when you floor it, the gauge should peg all way to the 'rich' side. thats the only "real" reading you're gonna get.

Nothing at all. I know it could be hard to tell exact milage buton these cars but mine is my DD so I know what it gets and its not really there anymore. Should I just replace to o2 or should I check some other stuff first?

if you just spliced into that wire i really doubt you ruined your O2.

could just be a bad batch of gas...or your right foot !!

Have you checked your mpg the correct way or are you just going by the gauge on the dash?
