Default Help removing muffler??

Ok so I know this is going to sound retarded, but I am having trouble removing my borla muffler. It is the 3" adj. catback system and I am trying to replace the muffler with a new replacement.

It seems that the pipe going into the muffler was tack welded underneath the clamp. I was able to remove the clamp and grinded the welds. But I can not seem to get the muffler to slip off the pipe. I have tried using a small chisel and screwdriver to enlarge the opening and separate the two pipes and also tried hitting the side of the muffler with a dead-blow hammer hoping to loosening it.

The thing isn't moving at all...anyone have any suggestions that I might have overlooked? I'm about ready to just bolt everything back together and take it to an exhaust shop to have them remove it.

If it is welded and you cannot locate the tac weld, you are going to need to cut it off...or have someone do it for you.

cut a slit on the muffler pipe where it slides on to the exhaust, about and inch long on the long ways, and that should break free any rust that is locking it together, you will be able to twist it out then.

Just went through this too. Gotta split the pipe like 7935 says. Use the chisel to cut a slice down the pipe. Then just band clamp over it once you've installed the new muffler.

Ah I was kind of wondering about splitting the pipe. It already has ~0.5" notches in it and I was trying to get away with those, but I will try and cut it longer tomorrow...I'm not worried about damaging that piece since that is part of the muffler that I am replacing.

And Timmy, I did locate the welds and already know its not holding anymore (already pried the metal away from those areas), guess its just rust.
