How to fix oil usage?

How to fix oil usage? My ol Z is using some oil. At the moment I have Royal Purple 5W30 and have tried Mobil 1 10W30, 5W30. I understand what most people use is a catch can or upgrade the PCV system. What exactly does the catchcan do I and how do Iget one and install it? Or what about the PCV system Ive heard of upgrading to LS6 but, which one is preferred and which one works? Any help would be appreciated!

You might want to try a thicker oil. Some people mix 2 quarts of Mobile 1 15w-50 with 4 quarts of M1 10-30. You might also want to try Mobile Delvac 1 5w-40 (the same as Mobile Truck & SUV oil). You could also try German Castrol Syntac 0w-30. It is almost a 40 weight oil.
