Default LS6 coolant tubes...or LS1?

i'm getting ready to install my LS6 manifold on my '98, and i was just wondering if it's absolutely neccesary to put on the LS6 style coolant tubes? i know if i keep the LS1 tube i'll have to shave the bottom of my manifold, but really is the LS6 style beneficial to the running of the engine, or will it be just fine with the stock LS1 tubes in place with the manifold shaved?

shaved mine also, no problems. I read somewhere that the LS1 coolant lines are superior to the LS6, could just be an internet myth.
