slp blackwing help :(

My boot on the blackwing ripped, my cars in the shop and i need some measurements from someone if you can help! I need the diameter of the throttle body then the diameter of the slp blackwing oval part. Im going to see if K&N or TurboHoses has something that can transition from a oval to a circle.
I also need the length of the boot from end to end of a stock factory slp blackwing boot.

If anyone can help, i would greatly appreciate it. Hopefully this can even help a few people down the road when theres rips like mine. And no duct tape will not be the answer to this problem :D lol thanks!!

I can pull mine and check for you tomorrow after work if you still need the info.

Thanks for the offer, i just went to the shop the other day and did it myself lol

Im still curious if someone does make a silicone transition or something. this sucks that SLP doesnt make them anymore

Try that self-bonding tape that everyone advertises these days.
The 'magic-tape' silicone stuff.
I've used it for many things & it really does work.

Have ya found anyone to make one, or found one that'll work?
I know a local business that specializes in products like this boot.
I'll have to tale a spare unit over there with the lid & MAF & see what it'd cost to make a few.
Might be costly to hand make each one.

thanks for the info... Still have yet to call K&N lol. im slow. If you ever have time to run there, then goo for it! im sure theres enough people on here needing one that maybe we can work with the company about the price?? idk just food for the though. But thanks again.

So, i tried to repair this boot, no luck. nothing really adheres to well to the urethane. Not sure what else to do.

Found this on ebay, looks a little ridiculous. but would you happen to know the size of a stock LT1 throttle body outer diameter?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...MakeTrack=true

Supposedly Lowes or homedepot sells a silicone transition hose.

Fernco
P1056-64
Plumb Quick
6" to 4" rubber reducer
Squishing the 6inch side into a oval makes it a 7inch long oval then the 4inch circle fits right over the throttle body...
http://www.homedepot.com/Plumbing-Pi...atalogId=10053

I know i know, it looks a little ghay, but if it functions as it should and wont slip off, then ill be okay with it. I hate shopping at HD or lowes for car stuff :/

sasquatch094 05-09-2011 05:01 PM

Dimensions on stock SLP blackwing boot follows

circle- 4inch OD
oval- 7inch OD
length- 2.5inch..
I think the HD one posted is tooo long..
Might be able to cut it down, but im not sure i can get it down to 2.5"

http://www.turbohoses.com/Transition.htm get in touch with them. They may be able to help make you a custom piece that will look good.

anyone ever figure out anything on this?

99Bluz28 12-04-2012 10:59 PM

Nobody makes a replacement bellow for it. I'd just go ahead and get a SPL lid.

Mr.z/28 12-05-2012 01:29 AM

try emailing SLP before you decide in buying a new one.

sasquatch094 12-05-2012 07:09 AM

i think ive tried calling them before, maybe another call wont hurt..

getting rid of the lid isnt too much of an option lol

I think a fiberglass or thermoformed plastic layup,
getting to a round outlet equal to MAF or TB, is
within the abilities of most people (cosmetics, maybe
vary). You could even take your ripped boot and use
it to mold a core out of plaster-of-paris.

Perhaps using something like 3M 4100 type urethane,
or windshield adhesive urethane, and laying up a few
layers of urethane and reinforcing mesh (like window
screen) would be preferable, for flexibility.

There is also castable silicone, which may be better
for high temp if less tough in general - the reinforcing
material might handle that.
