Default Headers and open ORY

So i just ordered some stainless ebay headers and y pipe for my 98 Z28. I just took off my stock cat-back today and am running an open y pipe (yes it sounds like poo). I tried doing some searching but couldn't come across any threads of people running LT's with an open ORY. Does anyone know how it sounds? It sounds like dog **** with the stock manifolds and cats so i really have no idea what to expect. I plan on getting a catback eventually with a cut-out but it probably won't be for some time.

At least get an X pipe if you are going to run straight pipes.

I plan on getting a cat-back system within a few months, just wanted to know how the headers and an open ORY would sound.

Unless it would make more sense to just run an X pipe instead and have it dumped? Excuse my exhaust noobishness.

I've also had suggested that i just run a bullet style resonator and dump it out of the Y pipe. What would you guys suggest for sound?

it sounds LOUD. I ran it for a little while with pacesetters and ORY for a while before getting my catback. I persoanlly don't think it sounds bad - I like loud - but it would get annoying if you daily drive the car.

That's actually my hometown, i live in Lincoln now.

Anyone else with opinions on this? I'm leaning towards just doing a dynomax bullet out of the Y with a turndown.

It'll sound like complete *** until you're wide open throttle abave 5000rpms. Then it'll sound like an F-ing NASCAR!

ive heard headers with the open y and i like it. I wanted to do that or what your saying with a dynomax bullet off the y. I honestly would just do the open y tho.

I had just headers and y for a few days before I was able to weld it to my catback. It sounded good but was VERY loud. I felt like an ******* while I was driving it.

It sounds like ***,major ***,I had to drive my car 40 mins like that and it was not fun,there was no good part about it,its just not a good idea

While I was saving up for a new exhaust I had a resonator on my ORY (also had lt) which fell off during driving...........it sounded like complete *** and felt slower.

I ran like that for a week or so, I liked the sound. BUT it was crazy loud, and every time you'd let off the throttle, it pretty much shook the whole interior, haha. Just got my magnaflow catback on though, and although I loved the loudness and sounding like I was rolling around town in a stock-car, I like the tone of the magnaflow, plus the car drives smoother and you can feel more torque in the low rpms with the full exhaust

When the resonator fell off it fell slower. Even when I had the resonator on it didn't feel as fast when it had a full system on. Could just be how loud it was.

So the general consensus here is that it will sound decent, but be loud as ****. I think this thread delivers. Maybe sometime down the road i'll find a cheap catback to throw on it or possibly just do duals.

So i just started the car and it sounds like complete ***. Can't wait to get my dynomax bullet and turndown installed tomorrow

It sounds good at idle but thats about it.

I couldnt stnd to drive mine 15 minutes to the muffler shop for them to weld the y to the catback..........
I couldnt imagine driving it everyday all day........
I love loud while sounding good..........
but that just sounded like *** to me.
