Default 160* thermostat & reset fan question

I installed a 160 thermostat and was going to have the fans reset a day or two later. As it ends up I won't be able to do it for a couple of weeks.

Anyone know if I may have some potential problems by waiting?

Thanks

Nope, you won't have any problems. I've had my 160 in for a while now with no fan mods. It just means your thermostat will open a bit sooner. I actually noticed a small difference in my temp just by adding the tstat.

Without any mods the fan will probably not switch on. This will eventually cause a service engine light and send a code. However, you can either have it reprogrammed to turn the fan on sooner or buy a switch to turn it on manually. If you own a HPP III you can program it yourself. Other than that you should not have any mechanical problems.

None, especially with an M6 and the (warm) climate you live in. As was said, to take full advantage of the 160, earlier fan turn on times would give you the maximum effectiveness in hot weather or hard driving. If you want to go the cheaper route, you can wire up a manual fan switch for stop-and-go driving, whereby you can keep the fans going on either low or high speed as long as the switch is engaged. Email me if you need directions for wiring a fan switch the simple way (in Excel format). Another way is to install a thermostatically controlled switch that will turn on the fan relays at a given temp.
Background note: the computer turns the fans on by grounding the (already + energized) fan relays. Sorry if too much detail.

thanks, that's what I wanted to know. I'm going to have the fan settings reset, but just not right away, and I didn't know if it would cause a problem with the computer.
