Default Why does the '98 (3 wire) Coolant Temp Sensor don't fit?

Ok guys I have 241 heads on my ls1 and am trying to put a '98 CTS on my cylinder head and the threading is just too big to go in. The AC Delco part # for it is 10096181 but that doesn't work. I told the parts guy at the dealer I needed one from a '98 f-body and this is what they gave me. I need the 3-wire sender so I can use it for other gauges. Anyways, has anybody came across this problem? Also, if you have a 3 prong connector and sensor, what is the part number that you have? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I had this same problem with my '98 a few months back, kept getting different sensors(at least 3 of them). What you're looking for is a temperature SENDER. I ended up using a Standard Part #TX111. An AIRTEX / WELLS Part #1T1081 should also cross over. Hope this helps.

The '98 coolant temp sensor has a 3-prong which I can use the extra wire for my autometer gauges. The 99-up are only two prong. The sender i bought from the dealership the threading was too big and wouldn't fit in my cylinder head.

So that Airtex sensor has the 3-prong sender? I'll try calling around and see

You can also try pipe adapters from a plumbing store or home repair store.

Correct!!! You also need to find a new parts place.. The # they sold you is for the 3.8 motor that fits in the lwr intake.

That's exactly the part number I needed! Thanks guys.

I don't know why the parts guy gave me that #, I told him to look it up off a '98 camaro/firebird? Anyways gave him the new part # and will come in tomorrow
