I have never used a ratchet on drain plug on any car. Drain plugs usually dont have alot of sidewall so a wrench works better.

And you can't get a socket and have to use a wrench on the drain plug. Is that it?
Yup

My ebay LT's (from 2007) are the same way. I assumed that all the LT's on the market required a wrench instead of a socket. Not a big deal, I've just never thought to ask
