Default Oil filter question...

I have a 2000 LS1 TA and a 2009 5.3L Chevy pickup. Can I use the LS1 oil filters on the truck or did they make some type of change over the years?

Seems as if the internal opening of the filter is larger on the 5.3 filter

I know on my 02 Z28 i run a 02 truck 5.3L style filter. The filters on the truck are about twice as long as the ones on our cars.

I can say the truck pan takes a Purolator L25288 filter with a 13/16" thread. Just changed mine Thursday...

Only problem with truck filters is they hang lower. Enough that some bumps can shear the bottom off of the filter. Instant no oil pressure plus oil under the tires. I looked into it and decided on a standard length WIX filter.

My car is lowered 1.5"s, and i have been running a truck filter on my car for 6 years now and have never hit my oil filter on any bumps.

Yup, and the other problem with the truck filter is that they won't fit a car pan. At least not without changing the threaded nipple. I posted half the solution to the OP's dilemma, someone with a car-style pan needs to post up the other half...

There's a guy on here that cracked his filter open on a bump. He shut the car off as soon as he heard it....... Yep.... Oil all over the place. Car was fine though.

I run the Amsoil EAo64 truck filter on mine. I will have to look again, but I do not think it hangs below the pan. Also, the filter is not much behind the centerline of the wheels. You would have to go off roading, go real fast over a large bump, or have something with a higher height between the wheels to hit it. Seems really unlikely to me.

The reason that guy sheared the filter off is because he was ysing a k&n which have the nuts welded to them which adds another half inch.
