What I find helps too is when tightening the bolt center bolt you can see when the pulley is moving or not, in spots when not moving, hit the sides with a rubber hammer. That will help get the pulley moving without having to apply further force.

Glad to hear it was the oil pump & not a bearing.
I'm next. The new oil pump is on it's way. Hope I have the same result.
Mine has only 1100 miles on a blueprinted pump. I don't think that it ever worked correctly.
The balancer is a March from the batch which had extremely tight tolerance.
Good thing the install tool used a threaded rod with aircraft quality washers. The March was so tight that I bent several washers before the balancer became seated against the crank.
A couple of shots of nitrous to the crank snout should allow the balancer to slide off using the correct tool.
