The reason you got an ses light was because of the rear 02 sensors. These are in place to monitor catalytic converter efficiency.
You can have them tuned out, or run 02 sims.
well this morning I decided to remove the y pipe, and wow its loud.
but after driving it a ses light came on. I just removed it have some fun. ill be putting it back on tomorrow.

If you want noise.
Get a cutout or 2. I put LTs and an ORY on my car last winter (garage season). I kept the stock Z28 catback on the car. I had ther modding itch last week and decided I was ready for a cutout.
I had one welded into the ORY right behind each LT. With the cutouts open it sounds beautiful. Attach a few bolts and its quiet again.
Kind of like pulling the y-pipe, just a lot easier.
I actually just installed a ls1/t56 in my '85 camaro. I have the Hawks long tube headers and currently don't have any exhaust piping.
Well when I went for a test drive, it seemed a little hesitant and kinda like it was sputtering? Anyways, since it's straight headers and the o2 sensor is about 2" from end of collector, will that cause it to run the way it is?
