Default Question on Valve cover gaskets

I have a 01 LS1 motor that I'm worken on.I cant figure out these valve cover gaskets. What I atempted to reinstall the old ones they were about 1 inch to long,so I bought new ones and went to install that one it was the same length. Is there something I'm missing????This is a realy stupid question but cant figure it out.

you have to squish (compress) them while installing. they are made too long so that once installed they will seal better.
