I'd be very careful using oven cleaner to clean inside the engine. You don't know what it could do to piston rings etc that you can't clean completely. If its water based with a acid you could cause some very expensive damage. Good Luck

I would like to start by saying, "I would not recommend sandblasting an aluminum block".
Having that said, I sand blasted my LS1 and accessories @ 90 psi. The block did not come all the way clean but got me 70% there. The rest will be done with simple green and a rag. I made dam sure that every hole was stuffed and taped off before I started. The main idea was to get all the small corners that I could not reach and remove any stickers from the blocks surface.

after I was done, I took off the valve covers and did a test layer. My girlfriend said she would buy the paint if I did the whole engine black (hints the reason the T56 got painted black). But I like the aluminum color.

I used WD40, scraper and GRAY (not green) scotch brites on the gasket surfaces/piston heads. Then It got washed all off in hot water.
But your right none the less... NOT ALL OVEN CLEANER IS SAFE FOR ALUMINUM... but this one was
