going to junkyard - need help ID'ing
Thanks!
Like 6898 said, look at the RPO codes (on the end of the driver side door).
For the gear ratio look for RPO code GUx (where x is a number).
Or look at the VIN:
- 8th letter = engine code: G=LS1.
- 10th letter = year code: W=1998, X=1999, Y=2000, 1=2001, 2=2002.
Which yard are you visiting...?

But V6's have different ratio's and diffs, no? (i dont know **** about the v6)

^^ that's the yard i'm heading too. Been there once before.... that place is f'ing massive..
On the door code look for g80 that means it has posi, then gu4 is 3.08 geras, gu5 is 3.23 gears and gu6 is 3.42geard

Good info guys, thanks!
Anyone know what all tools I will need to pull it?
wrenches: 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, and maybe 16mm
sockets: same
rachet
breaker bar (just in case)
hammer (to push bolts out of lower control arms)
large diagonal cutters (to pry bolts the rest of the way out)
off the top of my head:
undo electrical connector from chassis just in front of axle (driver side, inboard from wheel well)
undo brake hoses from chassis just in front of axle (next to electrical connector);
undo parking brake cables from just behind transmission;
undo driveshaft straps from yoke;
undo sway bar from chassis (will they throw in the sway bar?);
undo panhard/track bar from axle;
undo lower end of shocks (watch out, axle falls down, springs fall out);
undo lower control arms from axle;
pull axle backwards (torque arm slides out of bushing at rear of transmission, pulls transmission vent hose with it);
remove torque arm if necessary.

yes, i'd be getting the whole axle, minus the calipers, so i'd remove those and leave them hanging
