Default 3" Y pipe vs 2 1/2" Y pipe???

Is there any advantages to having a 3” Y pipe that merges into a single 3” intermediate pipe vs a 2-1/2” Y pipe that merges into a single 3” intermediate pipe? Either size is going to be restricted from the 3" intermediate pipe so..

I’m leaning toward the 2-1/2” into the single 3” pipe to help with ground clearance.

whats your thoughts??

Unless you're making a lot of power..ie. 500+rwhp you won't notice much difference in a 2.5 and a 3" y-pipe.

Dual 2.5" pipe supports around 500RWP...the real bottleneck is the 3" pipe.

This winter I am going to do a dual 2.5" into a 4" back setup.

A true 3" single exhaust will handle up to 400hp.

Around 340hp would probably be more accurate.

Personally, I wouldn't reduce the pipe at all after the header flange. I'd rather scrape than compromise power or sound. If you're really worried about clearance, go with an oval pipe in the problem areas, then as big of an I pipe as you can to a cutout. If I could run 2-6" inch stacks with flappers out the roof of my car, I would.

Im with him. The only reason I would reduce the piping would be to run 2.5 inch TDs or if the headers had a 3.5 inch collector
