Default Header size question

I'm about to pull the trigger on purchasing some new American racing Headers for my 01' WS6 with the hi flow catted Y-pipe. My car has a blackwing lid, ported TB, and magnaflow catback. I plan on doing a cam (TR224, or TSP228) and underdrive pulley this winter. I use my car for street only weekend crusing. It's a garage queen with low miles. I don't plan to ever do new heads or mod it any futher (after the cam and headers).

My question is should I go with the 1 3/4 or 1 7/8??? I have spent alot of time researching this but I still cant decide. I know people claim that you won't loose any low end with the 1 7/8 but I'm not sure about that. Thoughts please???

i think the dyno has already proved that the bigger tubes lose nothing on the bottom

I have the TR230/224 cam and right now I have stepped headers. I'm ditching those (rust, not size issues) and getting 1-7/8" headers. Like you, I said, "Only Cam, then I'm done." 410rwhp was great for 2 years, now I want more So I'm considering heads within the next year. So I'm getting the larger headers because they won't lose anything down low and they'll perform better if/when I decide to do heads. (hint, you probably will too)

Just my .02

I would recommend going with the 1 7/8s headers first. That way just in case you do decide to mod the car further down the road you wont be kicking yourself for not getting the headers with the larger primaries to begin with.
Here is a link to our stainless 1 7/8s headers- http://www.texas-speed.com/p-291-tex...e-headers.aspx

If I would've had the money for 1 7/8 thats what I would have went with. Of course if I had the money I also would've went stainless. Like W es 6 said you never know what you might want down the road. I told my self when I got my car that stock minus the borla cat-back was enough. Two weeks later I was buying a SLP lid. Then I thought why not throw a P&P TB on it. Then LT's and poly MM's. Well you see the trend. Now I am waiting on tax return for intake and cam. lol

What size primaries did he choose? I have a stock 02 SS and i'm not sure if i will ever install a cam. I too want long tube headers mainly for the louder exhaust note and possible better fuel MPG. I'm stuck and can't decide between 1 3/4" or 1 7/8". I want low end torque more than horsepower. Do we know for sure that 1 7/8" on a stock car won't loose torque?

I have the ARH 1-3/4" primaries for the same reasons the OP mentioned. I would very much like to see these dyno graphs. Anyone?

Mark.

The Kook's guys would disagree with that, I think, based on the phone conversation we had a month ago. If you are going to run a TSP 228R (great cam choice, BTW) with no other major mods then 1.750 primaries are fine.
