Default Stock Trans Am air box differences?

I have a hole in the plastic part of the intake on my TA that houses the MAF, I have a replacement off another trans am and it has a hole on the drivers side which looks like it would attach to a large vacuum hose? About the size of the brake booster vacuum hose. I'm actually thinking of running a nitrous line hidden thru it! But what's it originally for?

Actually it hasn't moved since I moved into my new house two years ago... It's actually just covered in dust and crap but the body isn't that bad. Engine runs real strong though, faster then my LS1 stock. It'll be on the road next summer.
VandykeT/A; what do you have done to yours? anything?? You get used to these LSX engines and it's almost depressing working on these older F-body engines. I have spent enough on the 400 to have a 500rwhp LSX, and I'm probably making 350 to the wheels.

My car should have AIR though right? considering it's a 99.. I wonder if a previous owner messed with it a bit.
I'll look into it tomorrow.

I'm not sure but I think all the LS1 Fbodys had the air system but I would say its common for people to take it off. you should have a big hose running up the drivers side and behind the brake booster and will T into the top of the exhaust manifolds and the pump is underneath where the batter would sit if it were on the drivers side. If you buy an aftermarket lid some of them come with a little k and n filter that slides up into that hose. My 400 has an edelbrock intake and carb, longtubes, 2.5 duals, summit 2801 cam and the 6x8 heads 7.6 to 1 compression . I'm no where near 350 rwhp lol. I recently tried to drop the oil pan to fix a dipstick leaking ( damn internal tube) and ended up having to do it just dropped down and now I think I've got my gasket pinched lol. It doesn't leak diesel fuel but I don't know about once it gets some heat in it. Its definately depressing when you mash the gas but the old T/As get the looks. Mine needs quite a bit of visual work but i'll get it there one day. The engine probably doesn't have 5k on it and the tranny not even 1k.
