Default Engine paint

Hey what's up, I figured I would post the pictures of my FINALLY completed engine with paint and all...I tried to copy the look of the lsx block with my 2005 L33 with 799 heads and an Edelbrock performer carb intake, I also am going to polish the valve covers to pay homage to 60s/70s big block/lt1 cars bc the engine is goin into a 4 speed 81 camaro ...I cleared everything including the bare heads and intake to protect everything...I'm diggin it...

I plan on swapping the valve covers for a set of hand polished ones I just started...here's a sample..

I haven't pondered that route but it sounds good...I've thought painted/polished and then sandblast a flat logo even...I got two sets so we will see

Looks great! As the L33 has an aluminum block, what prep and primer did you use? I doubt if paint alone will stick very well on aluminum over time.

After i brakekleened everything I rough sanded all the aluminum, then used some sand paper rolls on a porting bit to smooth out slag....then I went over whole block with red then gray scuff bad to smooth out. I then used 500 degree primer then 2 light coats and 2 heavy coats of Chevy orange followed by two coats of high heat clear...I know less paint is better but I couldn't help myself lol it keep looking better and better....finally I used one of those 3m plastic finger discs to do the pseudo machining look to accent and then cleared those spots...

I'm not going to lie I had to go back and hand brush the front cover bolt heads since there was no other way to paint them without 7 days of masking the freshly painted front cover

Nice job!
I have enough extra bolts to try an alternative method.
Use extra bolts to install your front cover and paint to choice.
To get around having to mask the front cover in order to paint the cover bolts (or, vice-versa), I take a piece of cardboard and plant as many holes in it as there are bolts. Then the bolts are inserted all the way into the cardboard, then spray painted. Let air/sun dry for a few hours
We then wait for the wife to leave the house, so that the cardboard with bolts can be placed in the oven @ 250 degs. (Don't forget to turn the kitchen fan and open a window to withdraw the telltale odor!)
Replace the extra, painted cover bolts with your freshly painted cover bolts, one by one.
While installing the bolts, place a small piece of 3 mil plastic within the socket, so that your newly painted bolts don't get scuffed.

Good call on the plastic inserts....I thought about removing front cover bolts one at a time because I didn't want my alignment of the front cover to be off...I def had to paint things 3 and 4 times just to be happy...brakekleen helped remove some of the paint in order to get a clean line...
