Default Getting shocked while working on car

I am doing some work under the hood of my Vette and when I touched a bolt on the supercharger with my forearm, I got shocked. I thought I was just scraping my skin so I ignored it. Then, I touched my forearm on a header tube and got shocked again. I tried touching the header tube again and got shocked again. It was hot, so I was sweating, (didn't feel a shock if i dried my hand and touched it) . I unhooked the battery and obviously it stopped happening. What could the problem be? A short? Bad ground? I'm stumped, the car starts up with no problem and everything works? Any ideas?

I'll check for bare wires. Any other ideas? Could the ground somehow be messed up?

Check the ground from the battery and grounds attached to the block. Also look at the pos and neg going to the starter. This happened to me years ago, but it has been so long I forgot what the actual cause was.

I've never heard of anyone getting zapped from 12v, are you sure you don't have something plugged into 120v somewhere?

I had a trickle charger on the battery. That was the only thing plugged in and it was on the battery in the back. I haven't had a chance to get back out there and look at it as I am waiting on some parts and it has been over 100 the last few days. I have never been shocked like that before by just touching the engine with the car off and it has me stumped.

When mine did it the car was running. I think the alternator may have been putting current through my block due to a short or something

If I understood correctly that the tricklecharger was connected to your car while you worked on the car....Put a voltmeter to the tricklecharger (metal) cover. See if you get voltage.
If you measure voltage, check if the metal cover is directly on the cement floor, or if the trickle charger is feeding current to the ground side of the car battery.

I'm sorry I meant I had a plastic case battery tender and it was in the trunk. I unhooked the battery and unplugged the battery tender and it doesn't happen now. I will try reconnecting the battery and try to simulate it again and see if I can figure anything out. Also, I don't know if this would matter but the alternator was laying on top of the intake still connected but the positive cable was covered by the rubber boot and not touching anything metal.

Ha, ha!
A pair of rubber undies might do the trick.
