Default VSS Input Need with Manual Transmission?

I recently put a 4.8L out of a 2006 Chevy express van in my Jeep with a manual transmission. I installed a reluctor ring off the transfer case yoke to so the VSS could be read by the ECU. The programming is off and the ECU reads 100 MPH, for instance, when I am going 60. Does this matter?

Does the computer need to know my true speed if I have a manual transmission?

I have heard different stories that it is not needed or it is or as long as it sees some signal it will run fine.

Any thoughts would be a big help because to re-flash the computer gets expensive and do not want to do it if it is not needed.

Thanks,

Jim

Without a VSS the car can stall at times when coasting from hiway speed to a stop. The speed reading does not have to be correct to prevent this.
The issue you might run into with a high reading is the speed limiter. Depending on the vehicle, it can shut down the ignition at around 130.
If you need it corrected, who ever removed VATS etc should be able to do it at a reasonable cost.
BTW, I've had first hand experience with both these issues.

Good to know. I got in touch with the programmer and he said he defaulted the max speed on the engine to 255 mph so I guess I should be good to go.

Thank you,

Jim
