85mm maf and water pump question

85mm maf and water pump question so im getting ready to instal my cam and heads and was taking off my intake. i have the 85mm intake and TB but noticed what looks to be a stock maf (bought it like that) now in my head that makes no sense! it wont pull in more air then the smallest diameter item....correct? should i ditch the stock maf and pick up a 85mm?
im not ditching it all and going with a FAST...it's either leave it as is, or buy 85mm maf, just wondering what i should do.
also, the 98 t/a that i am installing H/C on has 134K miles. while im here should i go ahead and replace the water pump also? are they prone to going out?

I have a 129,xxx on the clock and my water pump was fine before heads and cam i thought but when i finished the build the.water.pump went out while trying to bleed the coolant system. But i went ahead while i was in there new ported oil pump all new pulleys and belts all new sensors ect .
