Default Front crank seal, inner diameter dry or lubed?

Finishing up the bottom end on my LS1, can anyone clarify if the front crank seal inner diameter (that rides on the crank) should be installed dry or with a coat of oil.

Already pressed the seal into the front timing cover, just need to put the covers, oil pan and damper back on tomorrow .

Wasn't sure if it was like the RMS that is installed dry.

I wipe a little oil on both the seal and pulley before they go together. Make sure to install the crank pulley before torquing down the timing cover.

I always apply some grease to the lip of the seal.

Thanks for the tips guys

Installed the hub for the ATI damper to help align the front cover.. measured the 'step' between the block and cover at just under .005" with the max being .020" as per the manual. Rear cover was a bit more tricky, but ended up around .014" and .013" respectively.

Just need to bolt the oil pan on tomorrow and the bottom end is finally done, gotta start cleaning out the holes for the head studs now

That's a nice pan. What body is it for?

It is a custom pan to fit an LS into a Porsche 944.

You can see in the picture i forgot to put the a/c pulley on the hub for the ATI damper before pressing it onto the crank... had to pull it off again the other day.. wont make that mistake again!

I always lightly black permatex between the seal and aluminum, and a light coat of oil to the seal and adjacent seal riding surface.
