New to LS motors
Hey guys been dealing with hemis and 5.0s my whole life. Just trying to figure out what all are good bolt ons for a 99 trans am. Already have Kooks longtubes (stainless), cat delete, ORY, muffler delete. EGR delete and dyno tune. It is an AUTO. Worth getting a bigger TB? intake? no idea how to go with this car. It is also a daily driver and need to keep highway mileage.

LS engines are no different than any other engine...Its a big vacuum pump. The more air and fuel you can get in efficently burn and get out, the more power it will make.
Common Mods:
Intake (FAST)
Throttle body (FAST or NW)
Headers (Various)
Underdrive Pulley
Ported Heads (243s LS6 heads)
Better Intake (Lid)
Exhaust

Here is what I would do in your shoes. First off, I would look into a lid if it doesn't have one already. Pretty much all lids are the same, I have an SLP personally. As far as the TB goes, you can just do a P&P job to the stocker yourself, or pick up a Shaner or Potz (Potz are sold on Ebay I believe). Next, I would look into an LS6 intake if the PO didn't add one already, they're worth good power. If you wanted to go further than that, I would get a stall and another tune for it, that will show you the biggest gain of all on an auto car. If you want to go that route, go no less than 3600. I recommend a Yank SS3600, but there are plenty of other companies to choose from if you do your research. Search is gonna be your best friend on LS1Tech. Also, remember to check out the "So you wanna be fast.." sticky.

It already has a G2 performance lid on it and i think it has a shift kit cause it shifts firm and perfect! Okay ill look into some TBs but im going to replace the shifter soon cause its loose and i want a black pistol grip. How would i be able to tell if i had a LS6 intake? And i know it already has an EGR delete. Thanks for the input guys! i really appreciate it!

If it has an LS6 intake, you will be able to tell by the part number, which will be on the driver's side of the intake in the middle. I believe the stock 2001-2002 F-body LS6 is part # 12561184, the Z06 LS6 part # is 12573572, I think there is one other part # as well, and there is no difference between them.

^I saw this too and forgot to mention it. Either a P/O put a cam in it that the new owner is unaware of, or the dyno was pretty happy that day lol.
OP, do you have a dyno sheet for those numbers, or did a P/O tell you that it dynoed that high? Not knocking you at all, but curious... most cars with the mods you list are about 50-75 HP shy of that # at the wheels.

Yeah we have no idea but from what i was told by the last guy is thats what it put out. Im going to a dyno day soon so i will see what its putting down. But it does have a shift kit and maybe a stall. the guy i got it from said the guy before him has some stuff done but he doesnt know what all it is...if it does have a cam it has to be mild cause i cant tell by the sound if there is a cam.

Ok, I figured it might be one of those classic "The P/O told me this" cases lol. Let us know the results, adamantium is right on key with what he said, should be around the 320 HP mark with the known mods. Don't get too caught up in the numbers though, dynos are a tuning device only... the real test is the track.

Well turns out yal were close it put down 325.42hp and 351.97lb-tq. It ran like a beast tho and i took the award for the second loudest car on the dyno lol thats including multiple drag cars. The T/A is running rich which is good. Whats the next thing i should do? LS6 manifold and TB? I will admit tho that my buddy and i were rolling on the highway with his 2013 stock 5.0 and i pulled on him from a 70 roll after spinning.

Yeah an LS6 intake manifold would be an easy next mod, should be good for 10-15HP. While you are at, P&P that TB. Fortunately you already have a nice set of LTs. Stall and Cam would be the next step after LS6 intake. You will want to size the stall with the cam you end up buying..for example a 228R cam works well with 3600 stall, should be ok for DD duty.

Cool alright thanks for the help guys. Id love to put down atleast 400hp on the dyno. Instead of doing a P&P job what TB should i put on the car? Link? With the Manifold and TB how much of an increase should i expect?

Stock TB is fine with LS6 intake, really can't go bigger. However since you are looking for an intake, try to pick up a used FAST 90 and 90MM TB. That with cam in the upper 220/lower 230 duration should get you there number wise. I think you would be close even with an LS6 intake mani...Oh and welcome to the darkside
