Default BBK underdrive pully ?

I have installed a bbk underdrive pully, I have a brand new altenator I just put on. My car is an auto. I didnt want to change out the pully on the altenator because of it being new an just not wanting to mess with it, also from what I've read I shouldnt have to as long as I dont have like a sound system, It would be fine for charging issues. Well its not charging very well stays in the red an when I cut my car off I have to jump it off to start. Is this due to the pully needing to be changed or bad altenator? Also when I changed the altenator the small wire in the plug on the altenator pulled out, I assumed this is just a signal wire?

Since the alternator is new, I doubt that it's the source of your problems; however, you can take it off the car and have it tested where you bought it for output just to be sure.

With an underdriven alternator, you need to make sure that your battery is up to snuff first. If your battery is more than two years old, have it checked out to make sure it's capable of holding a full charge (~12.6V).

If the battery is good, then check your electrical connections in both the charging and starting system to make use they're clean and tight. A loose or corroded connection could be the culprit.

Good Luck!

You most have an A4 trans which has lower Idle speed than a M6 trans. You could go with a overdrive Alt pulley, but if you like to spin it above 6k then don't go with a overdrive Alt pulley. I'd have the idle bumped up from the stock 650rpm in park/neutral, 550rpm in gear, to 750 p/n an 650 in gear.

That single wire is a signal wire of sorts... it sends the signal from the computer to turn on you need to have it hooked up

I understand what your saying an I'm going to have that done when I get a tune, But I'm still not sure If that is the source of my problem. Being that by the alt. gauge sets in the red the whole time no matter If i'm idleing or running 70-80 mph down the road, which leads me to think that this problem is due to something else. I am going to have the batt. checked as well as the alt. an then go from their I guess. Thanks guys

OK i charged up my batt. drove about 20 miles, almost didnt make it home. The batt got so low that the gauges shut completly off. So I'm thinking it is the alt. not working properly, Right?

A worn and tired battery will lose its charge over time. Pull the battery and have a local parts store check it.

I'm betting your alternator is bad or has a bad connection. No way is your alternator contributing anything if the battery discharges that quickly. Have you checked the voltage while running, if it isn't ~14.4 that's another sign it isn't charging...assuming you've already had the battery checked to make sure it hasn't dropped a cell.

That sounds like what happened to me a couple weeks ago, only I was stranded at walmart. I got a jump and went right over to autozone. It was a bad battery. What kind of battery do you have? I had 2 new Duralast batteries go bad on me this year in 2 different cars. I was questioning if they had a bad batch?
