Question oil pressure gauge

So I noticed today while driving my car that the oil pressure gauge was acting funny. When I would jump on the car the oil pressure gauge would drop to about 40lbs for a few seconds then jump back up to normal which is between 70 and 80. Now the car has a Melling oil pump which I put in last winter when I did my heads/cam swap. I have never seen this before. Anyone ever had this happen or have an idea what i might be?

It could be something as simple as a bad gauge or more serious as a bad pump... ha've you checked/changed the oil lately? If your close to due for an oil change you could do it and cut the old filter open to see what's going on Maybe? Does performance seem to be down when you hit it??

I am due for an oil change. I got slow at work and haven't had the money to do an oil change because the bills come first so I am behind on the change by about 1000 to 1500 miles. Performance seems to be the same. Maybe a little down but that could be me just being use to the power now. Just weird why it would go down then just shoot back up like that. like a delayed reaction.

I'd start by doing an oil change and cutting open the filter see if you see any metal... GM gauges are known for being shitty.. only thing else I could say to do is buy an aftermarket gauge and hook it up see if it does the same thing... does it stumble when u hit it cause if it does the motor is falling on its fave (low pressure) then it will spike cause its rpming. Start with an oil change I think.

Ill do the oil change. No the car doesn't stumble it just powers through. The guage just goes down then spikes back up. The car doesnt feel doggish or stumble at all when jumping on it at low rpm's. I also have a lot of drag racing on this oil to so its probably pretty fried.
