Default Car has extended cranking before start?

My buddy's car cranks for a long time before starting. It's not the battery or starter since it is cranking fast. Nothing is wrong with the flywheel, missing teeth or anything like that. I just trying to get ideas of what it could be? Maybe plugs fouled up, or clogged fuel filter? Any one have a similar problem or have ideas...

Thanks Craig

Could also be a cam sensor or the fuel pump might not be priming/holding prime.

Put a fuel gauge on it, if it doesn't get at least 50psi as soon as you turn the key on and hold it then there is an issue with the pump or the return check valve in the pump assembly.

Clean your MAF sensor! It's a common issue, especially on cars running aftermarket oiled filters!

Good suggestion, Matt.
You've reminded me to check mine.
