Default Catch can not working well

I installed an AMW catch can on my 5.3L Silverado, and it's not catching nearly as much oil as I thought it would. In 2000 miles it only caught maybe 1-2 cc of oil, not even enough to come out of the drain when opened. It's a very thick sludgy oil, smells a little of fuel. I pulled the intake and oil literally dripped out of the runners. The intake runners in the heads, with only 500 miles on them, were a light brown coated with oil. The catch can is plumbed correctly.

Is this a common issue? Perhaps the LS6 PCV conversion is next.

Where did you mount the can...?
If you mounted to the heads then you can definitely make it work better!
I'd mount it down low and as far as possible away from the engine heat. Somewhere like below the passenger side headlight, or behind the bumper on the passenger side.
You'll catch a lot more crank case blow-by this way.

It's mounted to the power steering bracket which is basically right next to the cylinder head. The can is pretty warm after a drive, I figured it was because hot air from the engine was going through it. I don't see how mounting it farther away would help much, it will still heat up from the hot air, although probably not as quickly. Wouldn't hurt to try I suppose. Just seems like the cylinder head is a common place to mount it.

A cooler can means more vapor forms droplets which stays in the CC. I have my main can below the passenger side headlight on my camaro and it stays cool all the time.

Sounds good, I'll try to find a cooler spot for it.
