Ls1 water pump mods

Hey guys I'm looking into running a Davies Craig electric water pump and wanted to know if any one else is using one on their ls1. I'm also wanting to know if you can remove the impeller from the water pump so I can just leave it in place to use as an idler?? I'm going to have to remove the thermostat to as the ewp comes with a digital controller but I'm pretty sure I can just tear the guts out of the housing one way or another
