Default My SUX2BU style Ram Air setup

I still need to finish the fiberglass work on the inside of the airbox so it can be painted. I used 4" aluminum dryer duct with 4 inch couplers. I hole sawed the impact bar and the radiator support beam. I was able to keep the AC system, but had to relocate the windshield washer reservoir. I'm going to go junk yarding for a small reservoir to put where the air system pump was. Hopefully I can get back to the track soon and see if it made a difference. My last PB was a 12.2@111. I'm hoping to pickup a couple of MPH.

Very cool! So what is the advantage of this over something like the SSRA?

Honestly I don't know, I noticed the CHRIS1313 and the SUX2BU style had lots of good info when on the forums when I decided to build my own Ram Air.

Gotcha! I'll be interested in your results, as i'm about to pull the trigger on a SSRA or Chris1313

The only reason I didn't go with one of those two is cause I wanted to keep my AC and didn't want to scrape with my lowered car.

They make them now so you can retain the AC, but I hear you on the whole scraping thing lol. For $50 and no scraping it...that's pretty hard to beat!

You should think about getting a brick of modeling foam and shapIng it nice and smooth for the lower airbox, instead of having all that open space inside that is probably going to cause a bunch of turbulence. It might not help a ton but I'm sure it would help some if you could smooth out the air flow up in to the lid. Shape it nice, lay some 'glass over it and paint it, and it'll both perform well and look tons better for when you show people the mod. Any pictures of the modifications you made behind the bumper?

The lower air box is completely sealed with fiberglass so no turbulence there. However I do agree that it will look better with that front area closed up and it's on my to do list. No pics of the cuts I made behind the bumper, I just used a 4" holesaw to cut through, if you look at it from the back side of the crash bar there is a small opening. I put the drill bit right above that so I had a good pilot hole.

in the last pic put some screen in there some how. Just wash that out with the hose when you wash the car. Good think is it gets a TON of outside cold air, from the front of the car to the filter. Bad thing is all the other junk that get to the filter, and in the lower box. Wait till you see all the bugs at night they get up there. And fall time, tree, flower, and farm fields, cotton and hay they get up there.

Grass hopper week, june bug weekend, monarch weekend. SUX2BU kills 100s of them.

Yah i'm trying to find whatever material Injen uses for their "hydroshield". I had one of those on my last car and it kept the water and bugs out pretty good without restricting flow.

On another note, the map sensor read 96KPA by 6500 rpms @ 60 MPH. That's a 3% gain in manifold pressure from the last log I had. Of course weather could play into that a little bit, just not that much. I can't wait to get to the track.

Update on this:
Before I sold the car I went back to the track and ran a 12.01 @ 114. Best trap was 115. Tires weren't holding anymore. But that's a solid 2 tenths gained and at least 2 mph with nothing else changed. I'll see if I can find the time slip and post it later.
