1999 SS o2 Sensor Help....

1999 SS o2 Sensor Help.... Car : 1999 SS
Problem : Car was driving funny starting yesterday, so I sat and thought about it for a while and came up with a possible bad o2 sensor, Took it to my buddy and ran the obd on it and sure enough bank 1 (driver side front) was bad. So I bought a new one and put it in. Heres where my problem is, upon changing them out and starting the car back up, everything seemed to be fine, not idling rough seemed to be fixed, the SES light is still on, and now smoke is coming out of the tailpipes.... any ideas? Should I unplug the battery for a minute or two them reconnect it? maybe the ECM needs reset? I did not unhook the battery for the swap so maybe that would help?
*Note the car is basically stock and untuned/molested.
will a new o2 sensor cause smoke for a little while? should i let it run and see if it stops? kinda lost here guys. this is my daily drive so i need to figure this out asap

Either unplug the battery or use a code reader to erase the code. if the SES light comes back on though the problem hasnt been fixed.
Also a car will often run a rich air to fuel ratio if an oxygen sensor isnt functioning properly just to keep the engine from being damaged.
the smoke you saw is most likely coming from the rich air to fuel ratio and it will go away when the fuel trims reset with the new oxygen sensor after you disconnect the battery.

Well, i have tried multiple times, disconnecting the battery is not resetting the system, in fact my radio stations all stayed programed which seems odd. is there a fuse i can pull or any ideas of how to reset this thing?
