But to above, switching it to neutral is better for the transmission and clutch than downshifting?
As soon as you push the brake pedal in an auto car, the torque converter unlocks and RPMs drop to basically idle level.
Best way to do this (assuming it does much at all) would be to leave it in gear, and as soon as you see the need to stop, get off the gas and just BARELY touch brakes to disengage converter (I can feel it in my car with the big stall, just look for rpm drop) and coast without letting brakes drag obviously.

I'm just going to keep switching to neutral for the sake of my transmission and clutch like it was said above, I didn't buy the car for it's gas mileage
