383 hp questions
Ok fellas im looking to build a 383 stroker out of my ls1. I plan on using the rotating assembly from TSP, port polished stock heads, ls6 intake,LT headers. i eventually wanna go turbo but plan on running n/a for a while. my questions are cani run n/a on turbo cam. can i get around 700whp using 93 octane gas if i get appropriate boost cam, what size turbo would you guys go with, is 700 even streetable on ls1. i would rather go 402 ls2/lq4 but money wont allow. am gratefull all answers

I have a 383 but wish I would have went with a built 347 for boost. I just made 461rwhp out of my 383 which is pretty good but the 383 is kinda a bastard child. I have seen 383 dynos anywere from 420-480. I have seen H/C/I dyno anywere from 380-460. Most 408 or bigger I have seen dyno 480-580. There is a big differance. If I were you I would just build a 408 and be done with it. If your gonna go F/I then just look for a built 347 in the F/S section. They can be had for a fair price. I got my 383 stroker short block with cam, timing chain, and covers for 2400.00 with about 3000 miles on it. Been in the car now over 2 years. I am tapped out with my current setup @ 461 rwhp. If I want anymore I will need to go with a Fast 102 and some really nice heads. Right now I have some light ported 243's and a Typhoon 96mm intake setup. I think with some really good heads, and a 102 I could see 480ish but for the 3000-4000 I am cool with 461.

My buddy had a stock cube ls1 with forged rods and pistons and made around 1000rwhp with a 6 speed. I can't remember what he made after the auto swap. He was pushing over 20psi and spraying meth injection after 16psi. It can be done. If it was me doing it at his power level I'd at least put a girdle on it. But it worked for him. Save the money from the stroker crank, use the stock crank, and put that money toward some really good heads.
