Default Would an LS1 intake work ok for a 382?

Would a stock LS1 intake be good enough for a 382 stroker, or do I really need to get an LS6, Weiand or worse FAST intake manifold?

I am piecing together an LS1 and already have the stock LS1 intake ($20) but am surprised to see how much the LS6 intakes are going for ($250 ~ $499) or worse those damn FAST instakes ($500~$900), shoot thats more than what the engine cost me!

Are the other intakes that much better? Can the LS1 intake be ported/extrude honed? I've read TA99's post of the sucking quality of FAST and his problems with their TB and connecting it to thier intake. I've also read where the bastards dont even give you gaskets (after raping you for $800).

Thanks much,

Thumbs up

It will work fine! You just won't be able to make the same amount of power others are already getting with a 382. I'm making 460rwhp/450rwtq currently with my 383 lunati kitted LS1 from MTI.

MTI's first shop car, the red Z28, had a 383 lunati kitted LS1 in it, and made 440+rwhp/430+rwtq, if I remember correctly.

With a 200 shot of N2O on top of that, Jason was able to drive this car to a 10.4 sec ET back in 1999.

You could always pick up a used LS6 for not much after the C6 comes out with the LS2 engine! I think a lot of people are waiting for that instead of buying an LSX instake.

the LS6 should make about 10 more rwhp. the 78mm lsx will make about 10 more than that and the 90mm another 10. so you're giving up approx 25-30 rwhp sticking with the ls1 instead of going all out to a 90mm lsx. I should be at almost if not 500rwhp with my 90mm lsx tuned in my 383

Thanks. Does anyone know if anyone has successfully ported the nylon LS1 intake? If so, was it worth the costs of not upgrading to the better intake?

Thanks
