Question Safety bypass on thermostat?

I assume a safety bypass on a thermostat is there in case the thermostat fails and doesn't open. But will a bypass affect normal operation of the car, that is will it take the car longer to warm up since you are passing some coolant through the thermostat even when it is closed?

Thanks.

You "could" heat the motor up faster with that complete blocked... if you have an electric water pump that stopped the water flow... There are better ways to build heat in the motor
