Header Comparisons
I just read an article in a Mustang 5.0 magazine that compared 4 different headers. They had non-equal shorties, equal length shorties, 1 5/8th LT's, and 1 3/4th LTs. Unfortunately I left the chart at work, but the 5.0 was definitely modded, as it put down 419 max HP and 410 max torque, If I am remembering correctly. The funny thing is, it did it's best with the non-equal shorties! I was very confused by this. My friend suggested the following explanation:
At higher RPM's your exhaust pulse may not have traveled to the end of the long tube by the time that cylinder has fired again. Therefore it would "be in the way" and create back pressure.
Are there any charts out there showing power comparisons of short vs. mid vs. long? Monday I will scan the chart and post it.
Thanks for any feed back.
