A/C isnt working and its too friggin HOT!!!
i bought the car (00 Trans Am) about 5 months ago and the ac has not ever worked while i have owned it. I know it has the correct amount of R134 in it because I checked it with an ac gauge. I also checked the fuse in the dash fuse box. no problems there either.
what else is there to check? I have a feeling this will be an electrical problem because the car was struck by lightning before i bought it. to give you an idea of how strong the electrical current was.....the PCM had to be replaced as it was fried. so, are there any sensors, electrical switches etc that i can check? and where are they located? thanks
Firstly you have to see that you have refrigerant in the system, you talking about some gauge that tells you if its low or not doesn't make any sence to me, perhaps you should elaborate more. Providing you have correct charge of refigerant I would put my focus to the compressor and clutch. Once you make an AC request from the control head the compressor clutch should engauge. This is where the diagnosis starts from.
If the compressor enguagues and no change in pressures, assuming equilized pressures are 76psi or so. compressor is probley bad.
If AC system functions correctly and no cold air at vents i'd look at blend air door motor.
If AC clutch engauges and disengauges perminatly off i'd look at lo/hi pressure cut out switchs.
Still this is just a minor look at possible problem areas, i've studied mobile HVAC for years now and really how fair is it for me to spill my gutts on everything i've learned over the years. You should take your car to a professional who will fix it.
