Default Stock manifold removal - Preparation question

I've ready through all the header install guides I could find, and poked through the FAQ and forums.

Has anyone had major issues removing the manifold bolts on a stock (now 14 year old) exhaust manifold set? What's my risk to snap a bolt off in the head? I've tried to coat what I can get at with deep creep, but I don't know how much force I should be putting into removing these bolts. As far as I can tell, they have been undisturbed since being installed at the factory in '99. The car has seen a few winters before I got my hands on it, so typically rusted things are just that-- rusted. I'm kinda used to breaking bolt heads off at this point.

Anyone with more experience who can weigh in would be greatly appreciated.

You will ok the manifold bolts should come out just fine just make sure the socket or wrench is seated all the way on there. The only bolts that will snap are the ypipe flange bolts when removing them. I reused my stock mani bolts because the onces I got from pacesetter sucked, haven't had any issues with them backing out or anything.

Okay, because the thought of snapping a bolt off in the head gives me nightmares.

Yeah I would cry! You will be good I removed my headers two or three times using the stock bolts before I finally got some locker header bolts without any problem.

Not to be a killjoy, but it has happened to people. As you already know, the only things you can do are to give them a good soaking and then apply the torque gradually and steadily as you begin to work them.

Most people prep by spraying PB Blaster on them the night before they dive in. I didn't do that to my old ws6 nor did I do that to my c5 and they came out fine. I did buy new, black bolts though, the stockers were rusted and looked like crap.

Mine didn't break off but a friend of mine broke off the main back one on the driver side off in his Camaro. Soak them and hope. You'll probably be ok but they're always a chance.

I had one break off while stuck in the drivers side head. Luckily i was already planning on removing the heads though. I would definitely spray them with PB blaster to help out. Its cheap and it cant hurt.

The only place I had problems with breaking bolts is where the manifolds bolt to the Y-pipe.
