Question Intake-2-TB Gasket?

The ls6 intake I picked up was ported to have a 85mm opening. The seller told me he just used some gasket maker to seal it up and he also made his own paper gasket. That seems pretty messy and I'm wanting to try something else first.

Since it's ported, the edges that hold the stock gasket intake place on the inner side are shaven down. This shouldn't be a problem should it? I would like to use a stock gasket since I'm going to be keeping the stock throttle body. Here's some pics to show what I'm talking about..

Should it seal fine?

Here's how the stock gasket groove should look
I'm thinking the yellow section should hold the gasket into place well enough for it to seal?

I would be concerned about the gasket leaking and also sucking into the engine. I don't think I would run it on my car!!!

i'm going to try the paper gasket and also experiment with some rubber gasket, cut to fit.

It's fine. If you're worried about it, put that sticky gasket sealer on the LS6 gasket to help hold it in place. I made the thread about how to port the LS6 inlet for an 85mm TB. Mine had been running for 5-6 years that way while using the LS6 gasket.

thanks^^ helps me not worry so much now. You're talking about the red gasket maker right? I thought about just using that. Are you saying to put the gasket maker in the grooves and then press the stock gasket on and let them hold eachother in place?

You can always fill the entire grooved area with a hard settings epoxy, sand it flat with a palm sander, and go buy a tire inner tube.

Cut the pliable, rubber inner tube to fit and use that as the gasket.
