Default Name that sensor!

I just got an LQ4 out of an 02 Denali. I have all the sensors figured out but 1. Would anyone know what the sensor above the oil filter (about 6" above the filter) is? This is my first jump into fuel injection/computer controls so be gentle with the noob please!

where is it mounted? on the pan, block, head?
The only thing that comes to mind above the filter would be an oil temp sensor on the cooler bypass fitting used on vettes.

Most likely the crank sensor, but a picture would help us diagnose for sure.

I'm pretty sure the crank sensor is the one by the starter. This sensor is on the other side, above the oil filter. Maybe 2 crank sensors? Here's the pic.

Defiintely not a crank sensor, i had a brain fart for a second there. Looks like some type of coolant level or temp sensor. did it have a ECT sensor on the head?

From Canada maybe? Those are the holes they use for the block heater.

That is definately a block heater. I couldn't find a picture of a 6.0 with one but here is an LS4 with a block heater from the GM diagram.

That's a threaded hole to the coolant jacket. Either a block heater like others have said. Or someone could have put an aftermarket temp sensor there. I used that hole for old school GM temp sensors in both my swaps.

Aha, a block heater, very cool and makes sense since the donor vehicle was from northern Minnesota. There is a spot on the other side of the block as well that has a plug in it. I bow to your knowledge, I will definitely be hanging around!

Oh yeah, there is an ECT on the driver side head near the front.

Next question, where do I find the parts to hook the block heater back up?

Looks like the old style brass 3 wire heater, so you'd need cord number 19116191. It's been discontinued from GM but you may be able to find one.

On the older ones that should be a cord direct from the heater in the block on one end and is a standard 3-pin 110v plug in on the other end, so I think that should be all you need.

Alternatively, you can just get the GM plug for the hole, leave that in there to plug the hole, or get the new style heater that goes in the hole along with it's corresponding cord.

I always wondered why the coolant jacket drain plug was much bigger on the drivers side vs the passenger side. Interesting.
