Default broken smog pipe question

i believe it is a smog or egr pipe

is comming ff the bottom of my passengers side header, its an aluminum pipe that is attached to a fitting like this... http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/pr...15388_zoom.jpg

it snapped off pretty close to the header..

what is this pipes purpose, can i drive like this safely , is there an easy fix other then replacing the header or having the pipe welded back on?

That is a cover used after the air pump is removed.

Either of those things will work or weld a patch on the pipe.

My EGR pipe broke off right where it was welded to the header. I just broke it all the way off, found a short bolt the same diameter of the hole, shoved it in there and welded it in place. Looks a little cleaner now, you can't see it all from the top side of the motor.

I looked into that but it won't hold up to the heat.

It wasn't too bad to get to underneath the car but then again I don't have A/C anymore so there is a lot more room on that side now. I drove mine for a day or so and it was annoying and sounded like **** but I wouldn't wait too long to get it fixed.
