Default Difference in a 160 and Fan Control Switch

Mods, if this thread needs to be moved, please do.
I know what a 160 thermostat is suppose to do, but I am confused on a few things:

1) Can I install a 160 on my car and NOT do the PCM tune yet? Any damage to anything if I wait a while before I get it tuned (more mods planned in the near future) ?
2) Can I just usa a Fan Control Switch and bypass the 160 all together ?
3) pro's/con's of the Fan Control Switch and/or the 160 ?
4) Can or do both the 160 and the Fan Control Switch need to be installed at the same time or does it hurt anything if they both are installed ?
TIA

there's a common misconception that a 160 T-stat will keep your coolant at this temp. It only opens up faster, but the coolant temp will be substantially higher. The fan control switch can be used when you don't reset the temp at which your cooling fans come on. I think that most people here using diagnostic software that use the 160 t-stat still run their engines at over 185 degrees. From my personal experience..... I like the fact that the engine runs cooler with the 160 t-stat and fan control switch around city driving. At highway speeds the fans can be kept off. Oh, don't expect the POS temperature gauge to come down much if at all if you switch to the 160 unit.
